My first mentor in advertising was a wonderfully quirky gentleman named John Geyer. He asked me early in my career as an art director at Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, “Have you ever been to San Francisco?” I told him no. He suggested that the next time I have the chance, draw a bridge in an ad. Well, two years later I was on a photo shoot in San Francisco Bay, on a beautiful boat, taking pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. It took two weeks due to the fog that was totally not predictable.
